DERMAN VERBAKEL ARCHITECTURE was founded in New York by Els Verbakel and Elie Derman in 2001 after winning the Venezuela National Architecture Award for their disaster relief proposal in Vargas and the second prize in the international design competition Europan 6. Our work ranges from interior design, residential and commercial buildings to housing and urban design, with projects in New York, Belgium, Israel, Venezuela and Morocco.
In 2005, Derman Verbakel won the invited competition for the masterplan and image quality plan in Bonheiden, Belgium in 2005. With this project, our practice developed a unique approach to urban design allowing for a flexible, ecological and dynamic plan which gained international attention as a new design model, with publications in A+ (Belgium), Architettura Naturale (Italy), Lotus (Italy), AD Magazine (UK) and New Urbanisms (US). Derman Verbakel's work has been exhibited at the Architecture Biennial of Venezuela. Caracas (2001), the Bat-Yam International Biennial for Landscape Urbanism (2008) and the European Biennial of Landscape Architecture Barcelona (2009)
We are committed to providing the highest professional standards placing availability and continuity as the first priority in a one-to-one relationship with our clients. Every single project receives our maximum personal attention in which understanding program requirements, project demands and site parameters together with the client form an important point of departure. Our approach is based on providing flexible design tools allowing for clients to be part of the design process and to control project budgets.
