Established in 2004 by Dutch architects and designers Bart Eijking and Patrick de Louwere, eijkingdelouwere’s projects span right from architecture and urban planning, to interior design and product design. Their work has gained consistent media attention and much acclaim within the industry; the duo first winning runner-up in the famed Europan 5 competition for young architects, followed closely by first prize in the Royal Institute of Dutch Architects Competition in 2001. Most recently they have won two Interior Design Best Of Year Awards in 2006 and a Merit Best Of Year Award in 2007 for product design, subsequently establishing their furniture brand, Studio Lawrence, in 2007.
Craftsmanship forms the foundation of eijkingdelouwere’s work. Keen attention to detail and a bold signature style forms a polished, coherent outcome. The designers’ fascination with sequences and composition form the kernel of their work. Their play with varying tactile surfaces and depths, creating dynamic and integrated spaces, extends from urban planning projects to compelling architectural facades and interiors. This is enriched by designs and motifs employing both logical sequences and lyrical hand drawn lines, which are present in all their projects and set eijkingdelouwere in a field of their own.
While eijkingdelouwere’s architecture exploits the unadulterated form of the natural materials they employ, vibrant crafted colour palettes and bold functional furniture pervade their interiors and are used to express their key sequences and motifs in varying textures. With an equal eye for the individual and collective experiences, eijkingdelouwere’s designs consider and encourage interaction, from the use of space to bespoke modular furniture with interchangeable elements.
eijkingdelouwere ensures the client resides at the core of every project. Having worked with a broad range of clients from Schools, Property Developers, Law Firms, Residential, Healthcare to listed companies, the designers seek to engage and involve the client at every stage. Successful communication is key. Initially using hand drawn sketches alongside models, the designers establish an active dialogue, enabling the client to effectively define the creative aspects and aspirations of the brief. This dynamic approach works to build a joint vision, while eijkingdelouwere’s technical rigour, ruthless efficiency and professional approach means every project is delivered on time and on budget.
