The RIVELI™ product line started off as a simple, handmade, one-of-a-kind art piece for a furniture show in Chicago (and again at ICFF Studio in New York). Designer Mark Kinsley created the concept as a response to the compact living space in his downtown studio. He worked with a local machine shop to hand machine all parts from solid aluminum plate, paid for by trading design work for shop time and materials. The response from viewers of the piece was so overwhelmingly positive that Mark decided to re-design and engineer the shelving system to be easier to manufacture for consumer sales. After spending a year patenting the design and shopping it around to different furniture manufacturers to no avail, he decided to take a chance and manufacture and sell RIVELI Shelving himself. With the help of Jill Pai and her contract furniture design company, Iconic Revolution, Mark founded LAKE + WELLS with the intention of designing, manufacturing, and selling well designed, American made furniture products... RIVELI being the first.
