Sandro Santantonio was born in Lecce in 1977 and he attended the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera in Milan where he graduated with honors in 2000. During his studies he began to collaborate with leading designers and to participate in national and international exhibitions. He founded Sandro Santantonio Design (SSD) with contribution from Andrea Cantu in 2004, a working group infused with new ideas of Design that brings together multiple skills within a single unit.
He works in the fields of Architecture, Interior & Industrial Design, Graphics, Packaging & Fashion Design with specialization in the research of tendencies, the study of innovative materials and new technologies.
This approach allows him to broaden his client base and collaborate with leading companies. It has led him to win various awards, such as the special mention Young&Design 2004 for the Flower chair, two special mentions Young&Design 2005 for the sofa line Dune and the lamp collection Zoe, the special mention Young&Design 2006 for the table Wave and the first prize in the maritime design competition Abitare il Mare 2006 hosted by Seatec- Carrara Fiere. In addition, he won Young&Design 2007 for the lamp collection Trinity which also received mention at Compasso d'Oro in 2009. Moreover, his lamp ABC produced by Prandina was chosen in 2007 for the show Milano Love Design. In 2008 he was invited to furnish the International Cinema Festival in Rome and do the same in 2009 for the Oderzo award. The Biennale of Venice chose the Palace sofa designed for Casamania as part of its decor.
The collection of Muse lamps , designed for Axolight, was recently on show at the GUM Department Mebelissima in Russia organized by Mondadori. It received the Good Design Award from the Chicago Athenaeum Museum in 2010 and subsequently received mention for the Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany 2011.
Sandro Santantonio has been invited several times as a guest speaker at the Academy of Brera in Milan where he taught industrial design. He has also been teaching product design since 2008 at the Institute ISAD of Milan.
Objects designed by Sandro Santantonio have been selected by a wide range of companies and television programs such as Pitti Immagine and brand PRADA, X-Factor, The Big Brother, Mai dire Goal, Buona Domenica, Trenta ore per la Vita, Miss Italia and advertising for Venus and Clinians.
His work has been published in specialized magazines at both local and international level in editions including Domus, Interni, Ottagono, Interior Design, Elle, Elle Decore, Dwell, Vogue, Abitare, GdA, Capital , HOME, Marie Claire Maison, Code, CasaD, CasaViva, Box, Abitare, DDN, Proyecto Contract, Modus, MD, Ambijrntr, Prestige Design, Compass-es, Designetal, Mondo, Suite, il Corriere della Sera, Dimore, La Repubblica, La Stampa, Il Sole 24 Ore, Spazio Casa, Capital, Raum und Wohnen, Maison & Ambiances, Donna & Benessere, Schoner Wohnen, Casa Y Jardin, Ait, Ideales heim, Emporium and in others.
