theMAAK is a design-lead architecture studio based in Woodstock, Cape Town with a focus on public buildings and public space making. In order to leverage architecture for the most amount of positive social impact they primarily work in low income areas/ developing communities with the aim to help deliver “World-class architecture for those that need in the most”. They believe that more inclusive, purposeful, and beautiful public infrastructure, spread across the full range of our cities (not just in the more affluent areas), has the ability to better resource ‘at risk’ communities whilst providing opportunities for us all to better connect and learn across our many social, cultural, and racial boundaries. The bold new testing clinic for the Desmond Tutu HIV Foundation is just one example of how they are doing this. In this light, the MAAK are always looking for new and interesting people/ organisations to enter into this conversation.
