During the Milan furniture fair 2012, April 17th to 22th, 2010, we show our experimental project T.I.V.D. at Light Space, Ventura Lambrate, Milan, and you are very welcome to meet us there ! The project, involving work by 13 designers from all around the world, who have come together as a collective to exhibit, surrounds the exploration of stereotypes.
Stereotyping can be fun and necessary to a certain degree. It helps us remember terms for quick recall. However, stereotypes can become dangerous when they are rigid and inflexible. So we wanted to stirr them a bit around! We have all chosen one typical object from our country, and one typical material, than we made a “roulette”. Each person received an object from another persons country and mixed with a local material and culture, we re-interpreted and designed it. The results is a group of surprising objects that have a sculptural element and a surprising use of material.
By distancing the objects from their natural habitat they create exciting new products that have the feel of another part of the world. They challenge our preconceptions of how certain materials are used and create unfamiliar and surprising textures, functions and most of all make you smile. The main aim of this show is to have fun, spark ideas and show that design shows are not just about selling
products and making money. They can be about exploring how humans react to objects, tradition and culture, and challenges!
T.I.V.D will show you what objects are like if they are socially and culturally mobile. Most of all they will show you what happens when 13 friends have some fun with design.
