Born in 1965 in Havana (Cuba), René Barba studied art in Florida from 1986 to 1989. In 1994, he obtained a diploma in industrial design from the National School of Decorative Arts in Paris. Since then he has been both a freelance designer and a teacher at various art and fashion schools. By experimenting with a wide choice of materials, he above all creates clean shapes combining minimalism and comfort. He is the author of the Lollipop armchair at Soca or of the Stixx modular partition elements for the German brand Koziol.

If he worked with glass for a range of lighting at the Belgian Serax, he explores for Ligne Roset a new material for his Paper Lamp table lamp: non-woven.

Not just any non-woven fabric, of course: a special non-woven fabric that is tear-proof and M1 (non-flammable) classified. This non-woven fabric is made in a kind of double-sided envelope, with a printed side and a white side, which completely covers the structure and the base in black lacquered steel. This non-woven lampshade, light as a feather, diffuses a subdued light to create a soothing atmosphere. With its pretty curves, it seduces with the delicacy of its irregular graphics (vertical stripes for the small model and a grid for the large model) because it is hand-drawn, which makes it so charming.

This very current type of graphic effect echoes the strong trend of textured and geometric patterns to animate flat surfaces in architecture and decoration: it is with a similar “hand-drawn” approach that Inga Sempé has just designed. its new collection of Tratti tiles for the Italian Mutina.

Table lamps with structure in satin black lacquered steel and non-woven shade, 70% polyester 30% polyamide, flame retardant (flame retardant by impregnation, M1 classification) printed on the front and white on the back. The large model is printed with a grid pattern, the small model is printed vertically striped. 7 W E27 LED bulb. Color temperature 2700 K (warm white).
