Echegaray is a residence that arises from a stone ground and, in the same way, the project is a solid black stone with a wooden pavilion on top. The dark and closed of the private area, which represents the stone of the terrain, and the lightness of the public area with a panoramic view generate thresholds that are made to be discovered and create a feeling of intimacy and openness.
The architectural program responds to these intentions, so the decision was made to change the conventional order of the program by placing the parking lot on the ground floor, the bedroom area on the first level and the public area on the last, thus veils of light are created. The tour begins with the stairs, an element that guides you through a skylight that illuminates and marks the circulation. You can go up to the social without going through the private, and once you cross the threshold of the closed block, the public area becomes light through its wooden structure.
The materials that were used are natural and the excavation of the land was minimal. Retaining walls were used and even the stony ground is exposed with great splendor to become the side views of the rooms and provide them with a pleasant view.
The house is made to be discovered, as it is done when going up a mountain: the project is a closed stone or block that contains the private spaces to give them the privacy they need and, only until you go up to the social area on the top floor, do you discover the full-length view of the land.
