HASSELL was approached to create the interior of a new house designed by Robert Mills Architects. Having established a design direction a collaborative process was undertaken to review relevant aspects of the architecture, with the goal to create a fully integrated house from the inside out.
The owners sought to distinguish their house as an urban model within the leafy surrounding context of Melbourne’s Toorak. The design expresses a spatial simplicity, in which rooms are interconnected and their functions amplified. Sculptural gestures, such as the central spiral staircase and over sized joinery units, heighten both the scale and a dynamic lifestyle. In essence, this project is a pure exploration in an uncompromising minimalist language.
