Dental Clinic is currently required to provide the space for rest and relaxation, and the image they pursue, beyond the basic objectives for dental treatment. In other words, more characteristic design is necessary for customers’ space, which can be expanded to other functional spaces. This project explores on ‘screen’ as one of design elements which characterizes and composesspace in dental clinic.
‘Light Screen’ filtering light and view covers and connects all space. The existing space located in a curtain wall glass building surrounded by tall buildings. It was required to cut off the line of sight to the outside, and to appropriately block the light to the inside. Inspired by Korean traditional wood screen and stone wall, the screen made of wood represents vertical light pixels covering the whole waiting area. And heavy stone bench and counters are placed in harmony with wood screen. The screen designed in a variety of pattern was modularized for a factory fabrication and a detachable assemblage on site. The functional spaces for dental clinic were arranged most efficiently for the purposes of treatment, and comparted by translucent patterned glass screen.
