A Unique Building in an Emerging Location
Ankrom Moisan’s latest Pearl District project, The Abigail, is a mixed incomeproject, featuring 128 affordable and 27 market-rate apartments. The designholds 155 housing units, ranging from studio to three-bedroom apartments.
Located at the north end of the Pearl District in an emerging area, The Abigailis ideally situated to provide easy access to family-oriented services, as well asto the shops, galleries, and restaurants the Pearl District is known for. Featuringretail and community spaces at ground level, the building will add to the activityof the neighborhood.
The Abigail is composed of two six-story buildings that are linked by atransparent bridge and accessible on every level. Each building takes separatecues from the surrounding environment in order to generate separate identities. The west building responds to the urban character of 13th Avenue, while the lessformal character of the railway and river alignments influences the east building.
The layout of the buildings allows for the organic creation of four distinct outdoorspaces, which present both public and semi-private courtyards. These courtyardsfunction as places for communal events, relaxation, and play. There are alsooversized corridors and laundry lounges on each floor that serve as extensions ofthe community-based design aspect.
