Partnering with Transportation Federal Credit Union, CORE rejuvenated their headquarters in Virginia. The project entailed re-envisioning the interiors and upgrading the exterior streetscape and main entry experience of the freestanding, three-story office building above one level for parking.
Translating the client’s core objectives, the renovated building delivers a welcoming environment that unifies team members. Reinforcing the client’s mantra, "Different roads. One destination," the redesign conveys an intuitive journey through the space. Solid, reassuring, volumetric forms demarcate key destinations, which include the reception area and a new department branch bank. Linear lighting, floor patterns, and dynamic forms signal “roads and pathways” and imbue the space with a sense of movement.
A central feature is the new connecting stairway that serves as a hub for interaction among team members across different floors. Anchored by a sturdy wood plinth, the stairway symbolizes a destination and acts as a gathering point that fosters connectivity. As well enhancing collaboration between departments, is the multifunctional room with pantry designed to accommodate gatherings of all sizes. Embracing an open and flexible workspace design, CORE’s approach prioritized natural light and transparency.
Demountable glass wall systems and strategically positioned workstations maximize access to daylight and deliver a bright and inviting atmosphere. The exterior refresh succeeds in elevating the pedestrian experience at the ground level. This includes the redesigned main entrance and entry stairs, a new integrated ATM, and, to cover the garage venting, the addition of metal mesh screens with transportation-themed images that pay homage to the client’s rich history and culture.
