The fascinating Alpine environment of the Dolomites in the Trentino region, made up of shredded peaks and imposing mountains, is the element at the origin of the architectural design. The basis of the project thus relies heavily on the area’s most distinct and emblematic characteristics. Brunico’s faceted ice sports complex confronts both the topography marked by the neighbouring mountains and the parcel’s horizontality.
The crystalline envelop is characterised by a dynamic cut of the large openings linking all of the sporting activities inside the arena with the exterior. The polished treatment of the envelop reinforces the idea of a uniting sculptural object, turning it into an urban and landscape symbol for the entire territory of Brunico. Due to its unique architecture, the ice rink will become a real container for every sporting activity, a space for emulation and revelation of talents.
This sports equipment includes two hockey rinks: one inside that can welcome more than 3 thousand spectators and one outside with a roof. The new ice sports palace is designed with the highest criteria for energy performance, from its volume to the energy efficiency, from the site management to the materials’ longevity.
