CLT House

Tucked away in the lush rural landscapes of Hungary, there's a marvel of modern architecture that's as mysterious as it is magnificent. It's a creation by Hello Wood, a retreat that's one with the earth, literally. This isn't just a house; it's a statement, a sanctuary, a whisper in the woods that speaks volumes about design and harmony. György Palkó György Palkó György Palkó Imagine a house that plays hide and seek with you, dug into a mound, peeking out just enough to blend with the horizon. Its green rooftop, a canvas of nature's artistry, isn't just for show; it's a living, breathing part of the landscape. The house stretches out with a 135 square-meter terrace on the water's edge, mak... Mehr

Lumber bygg 4

"Lumber 4" is a commercial and office building spanning six floors. A recessed ground floor constitutes the commercial level, with the five floors above dedicated to office spaces. The structure is composed of a masstimber construction with columns and beams made of glued laminated timber. The floors are constructed using a composite structure of CLT and concrete, creating a slim and efficient floor system that spans long distances while also addressing fire and acoustic requirements. Diagonals on the ground floor facilitate better vehicular access around the building. The existing communication core from adjacent building phases contributes to lateral stability and access to the office floors. Christoffer Imislund Christoffer Im... Mehr

10 appealing homes built in cross-laminated timber

Gare Maritime Brussels

In the 1900s, Brussels’ Gare Maritime was a freight station. It is part of the Tour & Taxis site in Brussels, which used to be one of the world’s largest rail and river hubs for freight transport. After it was bought by the developer Extensa in 2015, around 45,000 m² of former industrial buildings were renovated and transformed into a multifunction office and retail complex with events facilities. The original metal framework of the buildings was conserved, together with the large windows. To avoid the buildings turning into hothouses due to the sun’s rays on the glazing, exterior ZIP roller blinds, custom-made by our customer Renson, were installed. To harmonise the whole façade and preserve the view... Mehr

Buiksloterham

Fast, clean and circular constructionThe hybrid residential tower consists of 30 linked and stacked wooden prefab modules around a concrete elevator shaft. The wooden modules are already equipped with installations and sanitary facilities in the factory and there they are prepared for transport to the construction site. This saves construction time and storage on location. This efficient production process already saves a maximum amount of CO2 compared to traditional construction. The prefab wood module construction reduces production errors and improves the construction speed. After all, production takes place under conditioned conditions. The modules are then transported on a truck to the construction site and placed there immediately. Wo... Mehr

A striking wooden house

Near the South Holland dunes a special house has been realized, which consists of a visible structure of laminated wooden columns, beams and floors. This structure is filled in with an open or closed filling; open with sun and view oriented sliding doors, closed with vertical larch parts. The wooden construction is visible inside and out, so that the rhythm of the structure can be felt throughout the house. All this according to a size ratio that has been worked out in detail, so that special and warm spaces have been created for the clients both inside and outside. rené de wit The clients managed to buy a beautiful plot on a small lane near the dunes in Monster. Everything was still open, from the location of the house on the... Mehr

Flevoland Food Forum reveals a compelling adobe façade drawn from the land beneath

Located in the Netherlands, Flevoland Food Forum pavilion is positioned more than four meters below sea level on the Floriade Park in Almere. The building reveals the story of the site in a unique way by lifting a 5-meter thick layer of Flevoland soil to the sea-level line.  Maarten Feenstra Designed by architectural firm Doepel Strijkers, the building concept is inspired by the principles of Nature-Based Building and incorporates principles of ‘circular building’ by closing water, energy, material, waste and food cycles as far as possible in a didactic manner.  Maarten Feenstra The ground floor of the pavilion makes reference to the nearby sea with its light, reflective and transparent nature. The floor is... Mehr

Prefabricated Indigo house brings sustainable building to a wide audience

A concept by Woonpioniers, Indigo aims to make architecture and sustainable building techniques available to a wide audience. Design freedom combines with an efficient building process and little environmental impact. Henny van Belkom Each Indigo home comprises separate, prefabricated elements assembled on site. The elements are made of laminated wood beams filled with cellulose and include a feature ‘moment resisting’ bend that allows for a free layout of the floorplan alongside a beautiful, curving line between wall and roof. Within certain margins, the size and inclination of the roof elements can be adjusted. Endless options are available for finishing the roof, façade and interior. Henny van Belkom The fr... Mehr

Mitosis - XS

Mitosis is the follow-up of a multi-awarded pilot project completed by GG-loop in 2019: Freebooter, a pair of prefabricated CLT (Cross Laminated Timber) apartments in Amsterdam, wrapped in a parametric timber louvered facade. The building was created using biophilic principles, connecting architecture with nature in order to improve the life quality of the people who use the building. GG-loop’s ambition to bring these qualities to multiple scales has resulted in Mitosis. The name Mitosis refers to the biological process of a single cell dividing itself into two identical daughter cells. It represents the modularity and the long-term adaptation of the system and serves as a metaphor for a flexible co-living organism where each residen... Mehr

Catalysts building demonstrates the merits of CLT construction

Built as a symbol of Washington State’s commitment to sustainability, the Catalyst building by Michael Green Architecture is the first office building in the state to be constructed out of cross-laminated timber (CLT). A fully integrated living laboratory for new sustainability technologies, materials, construction techniques, operation practices and design, the building is pursing Zero Energy and Zero Carbon certification from the International Living Future Institute. Credit: Benjamin Benschneider Situated on an irregular site that was badly in need of revitalization, the building connects to its surrounding University District context via a pedestrian bridge. With a total of 165,000 square feet, the five storey building bring... Mehr
