Sparkasse Bremen

MKM Museum extension by Herzog & de Meuron blends with existing Küppersmühle grain mill

The MKM Museum extension has a long history in the making. The grain mill, originally from 1860 with the current buildings dating back to 1908, turned into a museum in 1999. The museum houses the Ströher Collection, which is one of most extensive private collections of German post-war art to date. Simon Menges Herzog & de Meuron were involved from the start and designed an extension that was supposed to be erected on top of the silo towers in 2008. Faulty work by the steel-working company and subsequent bankruptcy resulted in the project being abandoned. Simon Menges In 2013 with the Ströher family as new clients, Herzog & de Meuron set aside the original idea of an illuminated cube balanced on the silo towers... Mehr

Werk 3, CSMM

For CSMM, the “Hub & Home” model is the future of workplace design. So, they took the opportunity to make their own office into a three-dimensional calling card and set out to produce an architectural rendering of the creative process itself. They transformed the loft space in Werk 3 into the model for a new way of working using a variety of different spatial scenarios that allow each individual to work in his or her own way.  Eva Jünger In 2016, as the firm’s headcount continued to grow, CSMM moved into a new office space in Werk 3 in Munich’s Werksviertel district. The 700-square-metre loft in a former factory building proved to be the perfect blank canvas to put their own design ideas into prac... Mehr

NEUmarkt Bielefeld

Department stores, once the „cathedrals of retail“, have become problematic urban zones due to the rapidly increasing volume of online retail. As an alternative to the monoliths that were mostly built in the 60s to 80s of the last century, new concepts with small-scale structures are needed that allow the broadest possible mix of flexible uses in addition to traditional retail and give the ideal of urban diversity a contemporary form.In place of the former Karstadt building, the NEUmarkt Bielefeld project proposes an ensemble of 4 differently formed structures grouped around a covered market place. The open arcades, oriented towards the market place, provide a zoned and well-tempered transition between the areas of public use an... Mehr
