Bademaschinen

Bademaschinen draws inspiration from the traditional Sjøbadehus—classic sea bathhouses characterized by distinctive rooflines, towers, and piers. These facilities were prominent public health amenities in the 19th and early 20th centuries, offering communal bathing experiences until pollution in the inner Oslofjord rendered swimming unsafe.  Becky Zeller Becky Zeller A notable feature of Bademaschinen is the incorporation of repurposed teak window frames sourced from the 1960s-era Grande nursing home in Drøbak, which was undergoing rehabilitation and conversion into housing. This reuse contributes to the building's unique character and aligns with sustainable design practices.  Becky Zeller B... Mehr

House in the forest

The house is located on the border that separates a suburban development of single-family houses and a protected forest area. The main strategy followed in the project is to let the house take advantage of this special location and make the most of its double condition by merging them both; the wild nature of the forest on the one hand and the built or suburban environment on the other. Alberto Amores Alberto Amores Alberto Amores For this, the proposal aims to combine the building and the garden in one single solution, which is to be understood as the continuity of the wild forest into the plot. Hence, different types of spaces are proposed: some are designed to be occupied by people, others by nature, and the rest by both... Mehr

The Elea Sofa

An alluring illusion. What first meets the eye when taking a glance at the Elea sofa is the gorgeous grain on the solid timber sides combined with the almost monolithic cushioning and upholstery. If you take the time to appreciate it, one will come to the realisation that the sofa appears to be hovering off the ground. Meticulously engineered and carefully machined, the slim but sturdy height-adjustable legs are at just the right height to make the sofa appear floating above the ground which led us to aptly name the sofa 'Elea', which means 'float' in Swahili. The framework is made from solid timber using traditional carpentry techniques to ensure a rigid and durable sofa frame after which the loose cushions are precisely marked and forme... Mehr

OJEJE

This project is located at the Amorepacific Headquarters in Yongsan, Seoul, designed by David Chipperfield, the 2023 Pritzker Prize. Red container

A container house made to promote local wood larch in the Saku area of Nagano  Prefecture, Japan. It has a floor area of 9.9M2 and a size of about 2.3x5m. It can be moved by a 4t truck by putting an iron pipe under the steel base. Although Shinshu larch is a beautiful red color and relatively strong among conifers, it has not been used as a building material so far because of its large warpage and twist, but due to the progress of drying technology, the concern has been resolved. It is expected to be used for various purposes. Here, logs, pillars, and beams of structural materials, floors, walls, eaves, furniture, etc. are mostly finished with larch, and visitors can experience the material and space.  takeshi noguchi take... Areia

This refurbishment project was born out of the desire to incorporate the lightness and chromatic nuances of coastal locations into the apartment located in a building of a superblock in Brasilia to meet the current needs of the residents. The intervention space had significant potential for spatial reconfiguration, which allowed for the creation, expansion and integration of rooms. Júlia Tótoli On the first visits to the apartment, it was observed that the balcony was covered by an opaque awning that obstructed the contemplation of the view formed by the generous treetops of the superblock and the breadth of the sky. This analysis revealed the balcony's potential to frame the landscape and project it into the apartment.... Mehr

Pequi

The project of the house “Pequi” derives from the desire to occupy a vast 50x50m flat plot of land in a cerrado region. The main challenge was to create permeability between the built space and the landscape in a harmonious relationship. The initial design was based on the interaction between the shape of the land and the built volume in contrast to the elements originating in the local nature, marked by the presence of pequizeiros, a native species of the cerrado characterized by its spreading crown, trunk and crooked branches with fissures and discontinuous ridges. Júlia Tótoli Júlia Tótoli The design operations consist of the interaction of pure volumes: two blocks offset in opposite dir... Mehr

Pavilhão

The pavilion project originated from the client's premise: it needs to look like it has always been there. The area delimited for intervention is located in the garden of a plot of land with an existing house whose plasticity and materiality recall the Brazilian modernist movement. The exposed concrete structure of the roof becomes the shelter for the activities inside, the exposed ceramic brick fences, the wooden structural elements and the glass frames provide visual permeability and incorporate the garden landscape into the architecture. Júlia Tótoli Júlia Tótoli The design process consisted of searching for the essence of the pre-existing house, maintaining the gene of materiality that is expr... Mehr

House by the River
