This is a residential building located at 3226 sqm. width area in Gokturk which is mostly a residential district but still under construction. We firstly decided this building to be introverted due to being settled on a whole block of buildings. We preferred it not to behave as a gated community, but only an apartment building with a courtyard with no homogeneity. We wanted the living spaces look through the green courtyard which provides an irregular entrance to the units. The project with 17115 sqm. construction area, contains 69 apartments which are 1+1, 2+1, 3+1 and 4+1 types. This green courtyard which uses the whole construction area is actually a green roof for the car park, bunker and heating areas below. Plan typology occurred by deforming a simple closed courtyard schema by giving the angle of the area boundary. The block was also detached partially for two levels at east corner and fully at south corner. This detachment provided both air circulation and opportunity for different levels at each block. At the same time, these detached blocks strengthened natural sunlight and courtyard usage. We didn’t allow entrance from Çamlık Road, which seems to be busy currently. Because this is a residential block, we preferred the entrance both for vehicles and pedestrians to be from the back street. With the aim of getting maximum sunlight to the vertical circulation and allow the user to have a look at the courtyard, we designed the circulation units to be transparent. Balconies create tension on the facade with both niche and console typologies. Rather than creating a housing stock, we aimed to question that conventional housing concept. As a result we developed 45 apartment types out of 69. We also designed the fixed furniture, social spaces and wet area together ourselves.
