Syte Architects

Syte Architects was established in 2000 by Oliver Barsoum and Rob Whitlock. Oliver and Rob previously worked together at a London based architectural practice, where they collaborated on a variety of projects in the residential, commercial and retail sectors. Realising that they shared a similar approach to the making of architecture they decided to establish Syte Architects. Within the office, each project is dealt with by a director, and is the subject of regular design reviews where the entire office design team are able to contribute to the scheme's development. This enables us to create a thorough and considered response to each individual project and design brief. The design process places a strong emphasis on an understanding of building materials and the construction process. We are committed to producing an architecture that is elegantly detailed and where qualities of materials, space and light can become evident. Alongside these issues the client's brief and budget are key factors in the design process. We have a varied client base that includes companies, developers, charities and private individuals. The majority of our appointments are secured through repeat commissions or recommendations. Project values currently range from £100,000 to £5,000,000 and include work in the following sectors; commercial and office, speculative developer housing, affordable housing, refurbishment and private residential schemes. We also enter architectural competitions and view these as an important way to help develop the practice's approach to design. Syte Architects have been shortlisted iin a number of national and international design competitions. We are a Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) chartered practice, and members of the Green Register of Construction Professionals. Syte Architects is an ISO 9001 certified practice.
