The farm landscape of Sarntal in South Tyrol is a testament to everyday culture with its emphasis on retaining the rural and traditional architecture that shapes the landscape. Am Hofmannanger by null17 is a modern home inserted carefully into this context, evolving out of the landscape without disturbing it.
Only a dirt road leads to the compact new structure which emulates the surrounding traditional building typology without imitating it. No retaining walls, open parking or terraces were required. This careful approach to situating the building lends the impression that the building has always been there.
The building further takes into account the use of traditional material, wood in particular. Untreated stone pine cladding contrasts with exposed concrete poured into rough-sawn wooden formwork.
The wood used comes from locally felled trees, which were then processed in workshops within sight of their growing area.
