Casa Blanca is a social project, carried out in collaboration with a group of
companies that each contributed resources to build this work.
The project is the second social work that we do as a company. Thanks to the fact
that we have a YouTube channel where we create educational content and
dissemination of Architecture, one day we came to record the white house, in a social interest subdivision.
She invited us to meet her to make a video and show us that she had remodeled her
house herself. Using lightweight materials like drywall and cement board, he built a
third bedroom for his oldest son and remodeled his kitchen. He also introduced us
to his first son, Carlos, 27 years old, a young man with cerebral palsy. Upon knowing
her house and her family we decided to support her. The project began as a 1-story
extension in their house of less than 60m2, however, upon understanding that
Blanca and her husband sleep in the same room with their son with paralysis, it
motivated us to look for a larger extension, growing a second level to have 3
bedrooms each with a bathroom.
Our philosophy in remodeling is respect for what exists, and economize as much as
possible. Based on the original floor plan, we eliminated the walls on the ground floor that allowed us to generate an open and spacious space, and following those same axes we relocated the rooms and bathrooms. on the upper floor. The staircase takes the position where the kitchen was, so everything fits between the same axes.
The design process was with Blanca, she chose the double height, the kitchen, the
laundry room, we accompanied her in the decisions and advised her at all times.
Thanks to the donation from the company Covintec, we use their polystyrene panels
with a metal structure, which facilitates construction as it is a lightweight and easy
assembly method. It was the first time we worked with this material, which initially
generated uncertainty in us whether the final result would be as solid and heavy in
appearance as masonry walls, which aligns with the stereotomic architecture that
we like to work with in the office. The final result is indistinguishable from the covintec panel block, it feels like a unit, a single piece, the mass.
We apply the principles of Introspective Architecture, taking care of the relationship
with the outside, generating an interior with lighting, spaciousness, and in contact
with nature, inside the house.
The result is a piece that belongs to the neighborhood, it shows that an extension of
a social interest house can be of quality, with simple materials, with the main
material, the good will of the people.
