Genuity Science (formerly known as Genomics Medicine Ireland) is a genomics research company, who are building a genomic database from the Irish population to help with the development of diagnostic techniques and treatments for disease. We designed a new fit out clinic for Genuity Science at the Trinity Biosciences Building in Dublin City, for medical and fitness testing of the general population, to form a significant part of the database. The brief for the fit out / clinic was to create a dynamic, fun and inviting space for the general public to participate, while delivering extremely high standards for privacy and clinical practice.
Caulfield Wright Architects were winners of two awards in 2019 for the design of this clinic. The company won under the category (€250K-€1m) at the Expo Interior Architecture & Design Awards 2019 and for the Healthcare Category of the 2019 Fit Out Awards. A reception with a backdrop of textured plaster in Genuity Science colours contrasts with clinical glacier white desk and is visible from the street. A winding “street” with different character on each side connects this reception to an open plan exercise area to the rear, terminated by a distinct green cube, with the corner cut. Each component of the project evokes its function; the green cube houses a Dexa scanner, the cut on the cube breaking the volume and representing seeing into the human body.
The phlebotomy rooms, where a blood sample is taken, are enclosed in a fluid shape and clad in ribs coloured differently each side, with a formal structure referencing DNA. The fins brings optical movement and the change in colour represents the opportunity for changing perspective delivered by science. The individual pods with high levels of sound attenuation provide for confidential discussions with each candidate. These pods are characterised as informal houses, with glazed fronts, and textured linings, of a domestic scale. Lighting design is carefully implemented throughout, in each case to accentuate the architectural forms, whilst guiding you through the series of spaces in the clinic.
