Dialogue with Wulong River, SANSONG PUYU Building | LYCS Work
The "SANSONG PUYU" Building, designed by LYCS Architecture for Fujian SANSONG Group, has been completed. Located in the core area of the Binjiang Belt of the Fuzhou High-Tech Industrial Development Zone, the project offers expansive views of the beautiful Wulong River. With a total construction area of 66642,84 square meters, it provides a comprehensive range of facilities, including office and commercial.
Fuzhou High-Tech Industrial Development Zone is one of the first national-level high-tech zones in China. Since its development in 1991, it has attracted over 7,000 enterprises spanning multiple high-tech fields such as artificial intelligence, biomedical technology, and electronic information. The rows of office buildings along the Wulong River have created a magnificent modern urban landscape. The core design challenge was to stand out among the myriad of riverside buildings without disrupting the scenic urban riverscape.
Enjoy the Scenery
Considering the building regulations that limit the height to 80 meters and the width to 65 meters, the design splits and reshapes the nearly 50,000 square meters of building volume into two separate high-rise towers and a circularly connected podium at the base.
The towers are designed as obtuse L-shaped structures in the plan to maximize the scenic views, seamlessly incorporating the natural beauty into the architecture. The two twisted gable towers are staggered along the river on the north and south sides of the site to avoid obstructing each other's views. A transparent landscape corridor is reserved in the middle of the towers, facing the Wulong River, creating an uninterrupted dialogue between the building and nature.
Become the Scenery
The design, inspired by the dynamic beauty of the Wulong River, imparts a simple, clear, yet highly dynamic overall image to the building. The rippling water patterns on the river's surface are extracted and translated into linear elements that wrap around the building, creating a natural transition between the urban environment and the river scenery.
The pure gray curtain wall and the exquisite white lines create a structured texture on the building's facade. The soft building chamfers are outlined by white aluminum panels, leaving a sculptural, clean, and sharp silhouette against the complex urban backdrop.
The vertically extended lines on the gable walls draw the eye upward, enhancing the building's tall and elegant visual effect. At the same time, these lines effectively conceal ventilation ducts, smoke exhaust pipes, and equipment rooms, seamlessly integrating functionality with aesthetics.
While shaping the building, the design team paid special attention to unifying the dimensions of the tower corners. This approach facilitates the standardized production of aluminum components, ensuring an efficient construction process and enhancing the building's economic and environmental sustainability.
Embrace Nature
The circular elevated podium enhances the flexibility and iconic presence of the "SANSONG PUYU" Building. This continuous structure creates a multifunctional open space on the third floor, suitable for reception, office, commercial, and exhibition purposes. Additionally, it forms the main entrance space, vehicular entrance, and pedestrian corridor on the ground floor.
The circular design also creates a tranquil, inward-facing courtyard for the park, seamlessly integrating with the riverside green space. The meticulously designed courtyard landscape and walkways enhance the building's connectivity and sense of community, providing an ideal place for relaxation and interaction for its users.
Conclusion
In the rapidly developing Fuzhou New City, the "SANSONG PUYU" Building stands like a pure, modern sculpture on the banks of the Wulong River. With a design that is simple yet sophisticated, it presents a unique charm of dynamic tranquility and harmonious integration between the interior and exterior. It has become a striking landscape along the riverfront of the High-Tech Industrial Development Zone, symbolizing the perfect fusion of modern architectural design and the natural environment.
