Student Housing in Cesena

Pier Currà Architettura como Arquitectos

Located in Cesena, near the historic center and the railway station, the project involves the restoration and redevelopment of the former Officine Battistini – a workshop building dating back to the 1940s – by creating university residences and services dedicated to students, such as study rooms, refreshment areas, and commercial spaces. The proposed intervention includes not only the reorganization of the existing building by incorporating common areas and residences but also its transformation through a new tower structure on the west side, designed to accommodate the majority of the housing units.

A key architectural gesture is the creation of two large green courtyards within the building’s volume, aimed at improving the psychological and physical well-being of the occupants by providing natural ventilation and light, and offering a green view even for the innermost rooms. Accessibility and public utility are further enhanced through the integration of co-working spaces and a large dining area on the ground floor, making the building a vibrant meeting point for both residents and the community.
At the heart of the project is the concept of ecological transition, which aims to align architectural practices with sustainable development goals to reduce the environmental impact of buildings while promoting urban sustainability.
