Jia Pavilion

DDAP Architect como Arquitectos

Nestled within the lush tropical beauty of Plataran Canggu, Bali, from December 9-11, 2022, Jia by OCK (Ong Ceng Kuang, renowned for its curated products and handcrafted decorative lighting) unfolded a captivating weekend steeped in art, culture, and performance. This enchanting gathering united the creative community, celebrating a shared spirit that reverberated through the air. Originally envisioned as a pavilion, DDAP embarked on a journey to transform the forest into a serene haven, where the theme of "Material Alchemy" breathed life into the surroundings, creating an idyllic space for inspiration and connection.

The concept evolved beautifully with the name "Damuh," a Balinese word for 'dew,' which captures the essence of the Jia Pavilion when viewed from above. Its design mirrors a leaf adorned with glistening droplets, symbolizing refreshment and aligning perfectly with the event’s purpose. Inspired by the contours of the jungle terrain, the structure boldly invites nature to spill beyond its confines. Crafted from Kayu Lapis Indonesia, the wooden pavilion harmoniously integrates with its surroundings, respecting the integrity of the landscape while embracing the natural beauty that envelops it.

Jia Pavilion embodies the essence of ‘home.’ Thoughtfully designed, it offers visitors an immersive experience akin to visiting a friend’s home, featuring distinct spaces like a “living room,” “bedroom,” “bathroom,” and “outdoor patio.” This openness elegantly bridges the divide between indoor and outdoor activities, merging both atmospheres into a cohesive unit. Entering the Pavilion evokes a sense of serenity intertwined with vibrant energy. In harmony with the overarching theme of Jia by OCK, this innovative design invites fellow creators to explore their interpretations, weaving together diverse perspectives within this unique space.

The open-air Jia Pavilion, conceived by DDAP, showcases a modular and prefabricated design that emphasizes sustainability, allowing for its repurposing after the event. Central to the Pavilion's ethos are the principles of sustainability, minimal energy consumption, and zero waste. Crafted with engineered wood from Kayu Lapis, the installation was ingeniously designed to be assembled in just three days. Meranti plywood, ideal for outdoor settings, serves as the ceiling, while the durable Keruing wood provides a robust deck flooring. To achieve the elegant curves of the structure, flexi plywood was expertly selected for its remarkable flexibility, enhancing the Pavilion's aesthetic and functional appeal.
