Space-Age Flair Meets Contemporary Minimalism in an Artfully Renovated New York Apartment

Hines Collective como Diseñadores

Located in the prestigious Museum Tower on West 53rd Street, adjacent to the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), this 2,000-square-foot apartment was transformed by Hines Collective into a striking fusion of 1960s mod-inspired design and minimalist modernism. The owners, passionate art collectors, sought a space that embodied a "gallery-space-meets-space-station" aesthetic, which led to a complete overhaul of the untouched 1982 interior. Stripped down to studs and slabs, the apartment was reimagined with seamless epoxy resin floors, custom furniture, and sleek white surfaces that create a serene backdrop for the owners' extensive vintage and contemporary art collection. Key features include a custom 28-foot sectional that flows through the living room, a luxurious walk-in closet that replaced the second bedroom, and a kitchen with white glass Miele appliances warmed by textured banquettes and accent tiles. The design blends function with artistic expression, turning the apartment into a modern art sanctuary with floor-to-ceiling windows offering views of Fifth Avenue and New York City's vibrant cultural scene.
