OCC Control Center of Taiyuan Metro adopts a TOD development model, focusing on public transport to achieve integrated development of the control center and its surrounding properties. This approach involves unified planning and phased implementation, maximizing the benefits of the "transit-oriented development " to create a comprehensive TOD demonstration project in Taiyuan.
The control center serves as the "brain" of the subway network, being both the technological core and a landmark of the city. The design preserving the historical and cultural essence of the ancient city while reflecting technology and the future.
The building's functions include three main components: subway operation, administrative offices, and shared service facilities. The shared facilities encompass a conference center, an archive center, and a public activity center.
The circular shape, perfect in geometric form, evokes harmonious visions of an ideal city. In the collaborative work of contemporary society, it reflects high organization and oversight. The core functional hall features a circular auditorium with a diameter of 60 meters, At the center of the hall is a circular skylight that provides natural lighting, equipped with an intelligent dimming system to address glare and reflection issues, this is the first control hall in the country with natural lighting system.
The façade combines two contrasting materials: rough concrete and clear glas curtain walls. The podium façade consists of integrated prefabricated concrete panels, which combine structural, insulation, decorative, lighting, and window functionalities, prefabricated in the factory and installed on-site. The vertical lines of the tower are ventilation columns that serve both as decorative elements and functional features for ventilation, lighting, and smoke extraction.
