Aviation Pionier

Otto Lilienthal has the distinction of carrying out the first unpowered flights in history. Also based on these experiences is the description of aeroplane wings that still applies to this day. He consequently became the namesake of the new Lilienthalhaus at the Braunschweig Research Airport – the first building on the nascent Lilienthal Quarter at Braunschweig Airport. The new four-storey building shows itself to be just as idiosyncratic and innovative as its namesake. Its shaping is based on a building plot with a triangular ground plan. The architect Hartmut Rüdiger bulged the three sides out, creating in this way a friendly, well-lit atrium in the middle of the building that forms the centrepiece of the Lilienthalhaus. It is open to the... Más

Airport Keflavik

In 2010 the Eyjafjallajökull volcano in Iceland erupted and Iceland became increasingly isolated. But the eruption turned out to have great promotional value for Iceland. The years after the eruption, the amount of visitors rapidly increased up to almost 5 million passengers per year in 2015 through the Keflavik Airport. The original Airport terminal opened in 1986 with 23’000 m2 and has expanded in size several times. Now it’s expanding again with a 4’700 m2 modern bus gate terminal, which will service passengers to and from the aircraft by remote stands.Materials and color schemes are inspired by Icelandic nature, black terrazzo floors, smoked oak, and glass walls in Icelandic autumn colors. The bus gate terminal building consists of a st... Más

Orio al Serio International Airport

Well known throughout Europe, Bergamo is the fourth most active airport in Italy and a recognized low-cost gateway for Milan. In this fast-growing scenario, attentive management of the functional demand has identified the need for development, whilst preserving airport operations, through diversifying revenues and the introduction of commercial spaces. In a long-term scenario, an overall revision of the airport layout will solve capacity bottlenecks concerning the terminal, accessibility, parking areas and airside activities. One Works carried out planning and design activities along with the construction site supervision of the principal airport expansion projects, interpreting and accompanying airport growth and related needs. Air France Business Lounge

Brandimage and Noé Duchaufour- Lawrance have designed the new Air France business lounge at Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport. This lounge has been conceived as a harmonious pathway, consisting of sections which are conducive to walking acting as a prelude to the journey ahead. The architectural concept was inspired by a park and developed around a contemporary reinterpretation of the plant expression. Shapes, materials and colours conjure up nature and the organic world. The paths are organised and give structure to the lounge like offshoots of a plant: taut lines and curved shapes go hand in hand with the vision and retain privacy without partitioning. This upmarket lounge, which is over 3,000 m2, is situated in the new S4 boarding satel... Más

Indianapolis Airport

One of the first U.S. terminals to be designed and built following the tragic events of September 11, 2001, the Col. H. Weir Cook Terminal at Indianapolis International Airport established new security paradigms while reaffirming the importance of vital public space, robust human interaction and the marvelous event of flying. The $1.2 billion, 1.2-million-square-foot terminal is a dual-level, 40-gate structure situated midfield between the airport's two main runways. The dynamic spatial and sculptural form manifests three primary objectives: first, that the terminal acts as a monumental gateway. This goal was achieved by an arch in the transverse section, creating a sense of threshold. The second objective is that the terminal cele... Más
