Perforated façade of infill house enlivens an urban Sydney street

Designed by Atelier DAU, this unique architectural infill on an inner-city site in Sydney, Australia presents an ever-changing façade thanks to custom perforated bronze screens. Called the Chimney House, the changing nature of the exterior is on full display to the street, an urban area which until recently had one of the highest crime rates in the country.  Tom Ferguson In addition to a rear expansion and overall renovation of the existing terrace home, the infill at this property comprises a new single garage with a self-contained apartment above. Specification case study: Poisson Blanc by naturehumaine

Naturehumaine designed a minimalistic and refined chalet located in rugged terrain north of Montréal, Canada. The architects shaped the structure in a compact volume to reduce the footprint on the site. The squared floor plan is topped by a gabled roof structure. The modest budget led to a reduction of circulation areas, compact spaces, grouping of services and simple and affordable materials. The result is a minimalistic monochrome volume that fits well within its natural landscape.  Raphaël Thibodeau Wooden facade cladding - Modern Siding in Ultra White-1 by MaibecThe white wooden siding with vertical orientation is factory coated and provides increased protection against effects of the sun and the harsh Canadian e... Isotta

It is a coffee table result of a continuous desire to experience. The base is unusually composed of two vase-shaped bodies different in size and which seem fused together. At the top end there are two circular marble tops with different diameters. The double structure of this coffee table is in ceramic with a three-dimensional finish that can be traced back to the texture of a woven fabric. This piece is particularly suitable for those who are always looking for unique pieces. Más

Escola Massana addresses its surrounding context with rotating volumes and ceramic brise-soleil façade

Situated in the heart of Barcelona’s historic Gardunya Square, the Escola Massana is part of a long-running urban transformation process. With over 11,000 square meters of usable surface area, Estudio Carme Pinós was tasked with integrating a large programme and building footprint into a rich existing city fabric.  Credit: Duccio Malagamba The architect’s design response was to differentiate the building, both volumetrically and in terms of façade design. Credit: Duccio Malagamba The part of the building that faces the square is split into two rotating volumes that generate different terrace spaces. Sculptural in appearance and giving the building a unique terrace element, this move also serves to... Más

Interior design for Japanese skincare brand Athletia is a showcase of recycled materials by Nendo

Nendo sets out to encapsulate Athletia’s brand’s values into the interior design; a balance between movement and stillness, inner beauty, and compassion for the environment. Athletia’s flagship store opened earlier this year in Tokyo. Masaya Yoshimura The designers translated compassion for the environment into the use of recycled and biodegradable materials. The flooring is made of flaxseed oil, pine resin, and sawdust.  Masaya Yoshimura Waste from a ceramic factory makes up 43 percent of the tiles used for the counter and countertops. Terrazzo surfaces feature crushed and reused glass from Athletia’s defective glass containers. Masaya Yoshimura The completely glazed shop storefront is partial... Más
