Beirut Café

Within the historic and newly renovated Östermalms Saluhall marketplace in Stockholm, the new restaurant Beirut Café includes specially manufactured metal mesh for its vibrant interior. Banker Wire M22-83 in braided solid brass enhances the look by being used in dividing screens, shelving and counters and in ceiling tiles and panels. The Banker Wire TXZ-3 is an antique copper-plated metal mesh designed like towers to enhance the atmosphere around the room. The metal mesh paired by the architects brings a clean yet warm feel to the interior design. The antique-plated metal meshes are both polished by hand to make the bright alloy sweep out into the dark oxide layer, which creates additional depth and a soft feeling in the metal p... Más

Café in Cracow

There is a cafe in the middle of Jewish district in Cracow (Poland) that serves original New York-style cheesecake and traditional hamantaschen cookies. It combines multicultural influences and local atmosphere. The historical neighbourhood was an inspiration for Polish architects, Barbara Nawrocka and Dominika Wilczynska from miastopracownia office to create a vivid, modern meeting place with architectural elements and details derived from the past.   The most characteristic element of the interior is a round hole in the wall. It connects two rooms and creates a view frame for each part of the place. Looking through it, we can observe a ceramic mosaic on one side and a decorative metalwork that is a wall plants hanger on the other.... Más

Walsingham House

Walsingham House – a prominent 1930s office building in the City of London’s Trinity Square Conservation Area – has undergone an extensive structural renovation by John Robertson Architects (JRA) for KHI Holdings Group. Originally designed by Howard & Souster in 1928-29, the building is defined by a classical Portland stone façade and sits on the corner of Crutched Friars, Seething Lane and Pepys Street, with the Grade I-listed St Olaves’s Church and the Grade II* listed Trinity Square directly adjacent.   The practice infilled the existing lightwell with new core facilities to create clean, practical floorplates which incorporate flexible workspaces and Grade A office accommodation suitable for mod... Hidden Cove Residence

Boutique bath house

The biggest obstacle in this project was the size and shape of the interior space; long and narrow. The goal was to convert theobstacle into a strength, to use a design language that would change the feeling of "small" to thefeeling of  "intimate and cozy". I turned to examples of extremely small spaces for inspiration.   The limited width and rectangular shape of the existing interior space brought to mind theimage of theold European long distance luxury trains from 1800's, with the beautiful intimate carriages, and ofthe interior of the boats, where the space is perfectly organized to maximize every inch available and designed so that the space would feel cozy without seeming small.   Playing with the metaphor of the tr... Portage Bay Residence

Westbourne House

Westbourne House is the conversion of a 1980s office building to residential. Twenty flats with luxury penthouse have been created with banking and retail at ground level.   The building was reclad with facing brickwork, faience panels and decorative metalwork to the balconies. The area in front of the building was re-landscaped.   The combination of hand made bricks and hand made faience work give the building a real "crafted" quality. Más

The Martin Agency

The Martin Agency is a world-class ad agency with a history of creating work that impacts culture. However, over time their building hadn’t kept up with their style of work. Dark hallways flanked in green steel were the unifier and the common spaces provided little room for creative collaboration. Wanting to maintain a presence in their 118,000sf building, the agency looked to 3north for a creative solution to adapt the building and, in turn, the way the work is produced.   Knowing not all work styles are created equal, 3north designed a space that truly meshed the space with the people who work in it. Out went the cubes, and in their place: adaptive office spaces, glass-paned brainstorm rooms, impressive client suites, tucked... Más

Thunderbird Heights Residence

Originally built in the 1960s, the challenge for this project was how to update a mid-century modern house without sacrificing its charm. Situated on a 1.3-acre site perched on a plateau above Coachella Valley, the rugged, inhospitable Santa Rosa Mountains rise immediately from the back yard; bighorn sheep can often be seen wandering on the rocks above. The 6,357-square-foot house sits roughly in the middle of the property; entry is off the driveway and through a private courtyard. The client's goals were to create an open and light filled home that maximized views of the Coachella Valley below and the Santa Rosa mountains to the south and west. They also wanted to create a fluid connection between the primary indoor rooms and the outdo... Fixe

At Fixe, the food and design is inspired by “Southern Sunday Supper”. The restaurant takes architectural cues from the typology of a Southern home and celebrates Austin’s trend-setting culinary scene. Like a choreographed play, guests are treated to a private Library, intimate Parlor and a traditional Breezeway. A screened Porch anchors the center of the restaurant with a homespun feeling while the open kitchen and floating bar make guests feel welcome and part of the action. Hand-crafted details, repurposed materials and heirlooms comingle with authenticity to express a unique balance of modern and vintage.    Material Used : 1. Carnegie – Plaster Finishes 2. Palo Alto Residence

A young Palo Alto couple with three children came to us with the desire to build a more modern interpretation of the traditional home that occupied this prominent corner lot in Old Palo Alto. As a couple that loves entertaining, they envisioned a multi-purpose home with ample room for their family, as well as generous social spaces that seamlessly flow from the inside out with as little circulation space as possible. Though challenged by the constraints of their small lot, a collaborative and thoughtful approach allowed a final solution to emerge that seamlessly integrated landscape, architecture, and interiors into a cohesive whole. With our guidance, the couple’s search for comfort, efficiency, spaciousness, and light, gradually tra... Más
