The project is about creating a third place in architecture. The client required a space where they could hold their formal professional meetings. During the weekends and festive, they can use the same space to socialize and enjoy with the kids and the family. It is a personal yet a public space that witnesses the playful childhoods, festive celebrations, gatherings and even tranquility for one. The property: a listed old water tower in the heart of Bad Segeberg, in the immediate vicinity of the Karl May Festival venue. The vision: to create an entire hotel area with the historic water tower at its heart. Speaking of historic: the addition “listed building” is almost a given. The Foz do Douro apartment is located in one of Porto’s first seismic-resistant towers, built in the 1960s. The purpose of the project was to reduce the over-compartmentalization, common of that time, focusing instead on bigger, more open living spaces that better suit a modern and flexible way of life.
