Arquiteturas Film Festival Lisboa 2015

Campo Mártires da Pátria 124, 1150 Lisboa, Portugal, Lisbon, Portugal
The 3rd edition of ARQUITETURAS FILM FESTIVAL LISBOA - international exhibition of documentary, experimental and fictional films about architecture - will be held from the 1st until the 4th October, with the theme "WELCOME TO THE FUTURE". This 3rd edition aims to provide a raid to different visions of the future: from "futures" that have revealed obsolete to those who are still timeless. It wants to go beyond the reasonable and look for unlikely previews of new worlds, which can have both extravagances, madness, prophecy, visions and insight. It is with this look at the future that the Portuguesedirector Edgar Pêra appears as a central character of this year’s festival. Of his presence in the lineup this year, we highlight a session exclusively dedicated to his 3D movies [October 2 | 9.30pm | Cinema City Alvalade] and his Masterclass on the relationship between his movies and architecture [October 3 | 5.00pm | Fórum Lisboa]. ARQUITETURAS FILM FESTIVAL LISBOA premiere will be on the 30th of September with the projection of the film "99 Dom-ino" (2014), a project by the collective Space Caviar. The 100th anniversary of Le Corbusier’s Maison Dom-ino serves as a pretext for an inquiry into the Italian domesticity and its relationship with the landscape in the last 100 years. Designed for the exhibition "Monditalia" at the 14th edition of the Venice Architecture Biennale, "99 Dom-ino" is an original idea of Joseph Grima, member of Space Caviar and the artistic director of this year’s Chicago Architecture Biennale. This 3rd edition has more than 50 films in national premiere, 4 films in European debut and 6 films in world premiere. Between February and June, the festival received 159 productions from 39 different countries to join the competition. As in previous years, the award-winning films will integrate the itinerant circuit and will be welcomed by other festivals, institutions and universities in several cities, not only in Portugal but also all over the world. The films in competition will be judged and awarded in the respective categories by the following jury: Catarina Alves Costa (Director, PT); Diogo Burnay (Architect, PT); Manuel Henriques (Executive Director of Lisbon Architecture Triennale, PT); Dona Nelson (Director of Amadora BD Festival); Nick Dunn (Urban Design Professor, Lancaster University, UK); Nuno Cera (Artist, PT); Olivia Bina (Researcher of Social Sciences, ICS-Ul, PT); Peter Bo Rappmund (Director, USA). This film is the record of the trip/project winner of the 9th edition of the Távora Award. October 1 to 4 | Fórum Lisboa ARQUITETURAS FILM FESTIVAL LISBOA intends to continue to grow in many directions but always with the same goal: to connect the social, cultural and commercial potential of the intersection of film and architecture. For instance, the festival has the recognition and fundamental support of institutions like Lisbon’s City Council, the Portuguese Association of Architects (OA – Ordem dos Arquitectos), the Lisbon Architecture Triennale, Belém Cultural Center - Garagem Sul, and our three cinema venues: Fórum Lisboa, Cinema City Alvalade and Portuguese Cinematheque – Cinema Museum. However, this potential is not restricted to cultural institutions but also reaches companies who recognize the benefits of being associated with cultural initiatives as a way to generate prestige, value and commercial synergies. In the last edition because of the partnership created between these companies, Sofalca and Digitalab’s association founded the first Portuguese brand of 3D cork covering solutions – GENCORK, who will support the festival with the design of the individual viewing stations for Fórum Lisboa. 3D Factory will sponsor the premiere of the film "Print the Legend" (USA) [October 2 | 6.30pm | Cinema City Alvalade], which will befollowed by a conversation with several representatives of Portuguese innovative companies in the 3D printing area. Fórum Lisboa Cinema will also have the presence of three architecture books publishers Circo de Ideia, Caleidoscópio and Dafne presenting a selection of books related to the festival themes.
