Basisweg 47, 1043 AN Amsterdam, The Netherlands, Amsterdam, Netherlands
Architecture Day will take place in Amsterdam on 23 June. A day when the spotlight is firmly on architecture, design, future plans and new areas of the city. This year the event will be bigger than ever, with many more activities and high-profile buildings in the programme. In the Zuidas district, the ING House, ING’s headquarters, will open its doors to the public. The architects and designers who were involved in the recent new build additions will give guided tours in the Rijksmuseum and the Stedelijk Museum. The director of the Van Gogh Museum will explain what the museum’s new entrance in Museumplein will look like. The newspaper NRC, which recently relocated to a building on Rokin, will open the editorial board’s office to the public. Visit the so-called Blaauwlakenblok, a medieval block that has been partially renovated and partially infilled with modern dwellings. Take a sneak preview of the soon-to-open hotel on IJDock. The Palace of Justice and the housing on this artificial island in the IJ can also be visited during Architecture Day. Discover contemporary architecture in Amsterdam Noord. Climb the Overhoeks Tower, Shell’s former headquarters, which is to be transformed into a hotel and offices. Take the ferry to the NDSM site with the office of MTV Benelux and the 20,000 m2 Kunststad Noord in former shipbuilding hangars. Take a bicycle excursion to the Cornelis Douwesterrein, an architect-designed business park. A secret tip in the far north of the city is the recently completed cemetery Noorderbegraafplaats. The architects responsible for the buildings here will be giving guided tours of their work. The programme also includes films, workshops, children’s workshops, lectures and many more buildings will be open to the public throughout the city. Our staff at the various information and ticket desks will help you on your way. All-access passes An all-access pass (7.50 euros if purchased in advance and 10 euros on the day) gives you admission to all of the buildings, workshops, lectures, guided tours and other activities. Tickets will be on sale on line from 31 May via this website. On the day itself, Sunday 23 June, exchange your ticket for an all-access pass or buy an all-access pass at one of the ticket desks.
