Two more months before you can encounter the real deal! Let’s start arousing your enthusiasm with the main themes and highlights of Ventura Lambrate 2015. The first one we are proud to introduce is technology. With furniture that can take shape without the requirement of man intervention, a project that explores the possibilities of 3D-printing and the combination of two completely different glass-making techniques.
Marcus Fairs, editor-in-chief of influential design blog Dezeen: “Technology is intrinsically optimistic: each new development, each new device brings the promise of a new future. Each new way of arranging atoms or bits opens the door to a new solution cloaked in a new form. And since these elements are infinitely configurable, technological development is more sustainable than sustainability, since it will never run out of ideas.”Ventura Lambrate 2015 will present a series of projects signed by international design studios, architecture studios and occasional collectives, also in collaboration with prestigious institutions, where the role and use of technology is absolutely leading and at the same time attentively guided by the creators of these projects in order to reach very precise goals.
At the location Ventura XV Wood-Skin will present its special collaboration with the world famous MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) Self Assembly Lab led by Skylar Tibbits, researching the possibilities of new programmable materials. The ‘Self Assembly Furniture’, like in the name, is furniture that can take shape without the requirement of man intervention. The presentation will show the progress in advanced wood working technology.Project EGG, also shown at Ventura XV, is the first stage in an extensive research that Studio Michiel van der Kley undertook to explore the possibilities and limitations of 3D-printing and new collaborative ways of making. The result is a non-functional spacious building consisting of 4760 individually 3D-printed stones, all unique in shape. The project disrupts traditional manufacturing production and seeks strength and weaknesses of co-creating.
In the characteristic and just renewed via Conte Rosso, Subalterno 1 presents Venice>>Future, curated by Stefano Maffei and realized by the collective Breaking the Mould in collaboration with the Muran glass factory Fornace Salviati. The antique Muran glass blowing technique, rooted to the territory and to the figure of the artisan merges with contemporary ceramic 3D printing processes, repeatable. These experimentation and mix of antipodical techniques generates a real analogical/digital laboratory, presented at Ventura Lambrate.
