World Engineers Summit 2013
8 Bayfront Avenue, Marina Bay Shopping Centre, Singapore 018955, Singapore, Singapore
Climate change is one of the most critical challenges facing humanity today. The growing global human population, and its related economic activities, has meant a heightened demand and consumption of the Earth's fast depleting natural resources. It has also generated more waste and has resulted in a spreading carbon footprint. There is now a widespread recognition that sustainable development can only come about through the adoption of environmentally-friendly solutions that will meet the needs of the present without compromising the requirements of the future. There is an urgent need to identify, develop and implement innovative and sustainable solutions that will ensure efficient and judicious use of the Earth's resources, while enabling the continued growth and progress of humanity. In this, the engineering profession is well-positioned to provide thought leadership, keen insight and technology-led solutions to the world. Therefore, in this spirit, a week-long World Engineers Summit (WES) 2013 on the theme of "Innovative and Sustainable Solutions to Climate Change" will be held in conjunction with the World Federation of Engineering Organisations (WFEO) General Assembly in September 2013 in Singapore. This Summit will include an International Conference and Exhibition on climate change, alongside another industry event – BuildEco Xpo (BEX) Asia – which will address sustainable and green solutions for the building sector. This convergence of events will allow engineers from multi-discipline specialties to congregate and share innovative and eco-friendly solutions and best practices drawn from around the world. Together, the challenge of climate change can be met.
