SABO was tasked with combining two large apartments in a converted industrial building in Brooklyn. The radically transformed layout is anchored by a great room located on the corner of the building, at one end of the 100’ long loft.
Historic elements of the century-old building, such as concrete beams and columns, were uncovered, restored and echoed in the textures of new microcement floors and limewashed walls. Various materials of similar charcoal tones are tied together to establish a backdrop from which elements can stand out.
The ductwork, for once, is treated as a carefully crafted focal point, finished with patinated brass. Adjacent to the seating area, tall cabinet doors fold, pivot and slide away to uncover a media wall and a bar, intended for hosting and entertaining. The parents’ bathroom is enveloped in serene, light traditional Moroccan plaster, while the children’s bathroom features colorful terrazzo, curved tiles and graphic fixtures.
