This apartment renovation transformed a 700 square foot studio into a one bedroom apartment. The main goals were to bring to brighten the dark space and to and transform the apartment into a sleek, minimalist space that would showcase the owner’s collection of Asian art.Large glass windows, stark white walls, bleached wood floors, white millwork and recessed track lighting were specifically chosen in order to create a gallery-like feel throughout the apartment. Several other design changes were made both to create an open feel and better utilize the space. Pocket doors were added to create a separate bedroom for privacy.
When open, they offer direct views of Manhattan’s skyline from the living room and create a continuous space that make the apartment feel much larger. Extra storage was carefully built in so as not to interrupt the open feel of the space. Studio ST Architects built a wall of closets near the entrance and two closets on each side of the pocket doors. Other unique features further reflect the apartment’s modern and contemporary aesthetic as well as the client’s lifestyle. A deep powder room sink was specially chosen for the client to wash the dog’s feet after a run in the park.A zen-like bathroom, with a large soaking tub and crystal handles, embodies style and comfort. The updated kitchen and bar area has new appliances and clear crystal drawer handles. Brilliant views of the skyline can be seen from all windows, and a private balcony off the master bedroom brings in fresh air year-round.
