SLIM HOUSE K20A

PAWEL LIS ARCHITEKCI en tant que Architectes.

This house, which fits its shape to a long and very narrow plot, stands on Kraszewskiego Street in Warsaw. Among other houses standing on the street frontage, SLIM HOUSE K20A is distinguished by the characteristic form of its front elevation, which resembles the shape of an inverted P letter.

Its body and function have been adapted to the unusual plot. In order to obtain optimal building conditions on a plot 10m wide and 50m long, it was decided to base the building on the border. This allowed for additional windows on the longer elevation of the house and allowed for proper lighting in the living room and kitchen on the first floor of the building. The house gained better access to sunlight, the possibility of convenient parking and relaxation.

At the front, behind the fence of the building. there is a parking space and a driveway with a garbage gate and a letterbox. Therefore, a double sliding gate was used and all the space in front of the building is occupied. On the other side of the house there is a green courtyard and a leisure area overgrown with old-growth trees.

The living area on the first floor consists of a large glazed living room with a fireplace and a dining room with an open kitchen.  The first floor is separated from the first floor by a large terrace in the form of an overhang. Under it it was possible to place a relaxation zone with an outdoor fireplace. The lump of the overhang is an expressive element in the composition of the entire building. On the first floor is the parents' bedroom with a bathroom and dressing room, two children's rooms, an additional bathroom and a boiler room. All rooms have access to a terrace running around the building.

The facade tile has been arranged in a regular manner in horizontal strips. This allows to organize the verticals and levels on the facade giving them an orderly and elegant character. Large-format windows in anthracite aluminum frames, whose height on the first floor is 3m, have a 3-pane package and a “warm frame”. On the first floor and first floor, exit from most rooms to the terraces is provided through the use of sliding windows.

The heavily glazed building was designed in a simple and functional way to fit into a narrow and difficult to build plot. SLIM HAUS house is an interesting answer to how to design a building on a narrow plot.
