Dome, the newest culinary concept at Desa Potato Head in Bali, offers a unique blend of cutting-edge design and eco-conscious aesthetics. Key Design Highlights:
1. Space inspired by historical cisterns: The interior reinterprets the ancient cisterns, transforming the centuries-old typology through the use of contemporary local materials and construction techniques. The highly reflective blue epoxy floor is reminiscent of water in a cistern. A matching blue colour of the fixtures and furnishings reinforces the immersive atmosphere of the space.
2. Fusion of futuristic and earthy aesthetics:
- Central circular bar with a metal surface
- Stainless steel monoliths housing iconic JBL 4355 speakers
- Contrasting Indonesian tribal sculptures, like Asmat
3. Sustainable design elements:
- Reclaimed wood and furniture throughout
- Antique rugs for a homey feel
- Upcycled cotton uniforms for staff
4. Community-focused layout:
- Large communal area under the skylight for connection and inspiration, creating a central focus in the space
- A selection of books on architecture, design, art, food, and wellness curated by Wildlife Archive
5. Custom-designed pieces:
- OMA-designed fixtures
- Specially created lounge chairs by Potato Head's in-house design studio
Quotes from Isaac Larose, Creative Director:
"We wanted the space to be inviting, a place for connecting with like-minded individuals, and to be inspired by all the reference material around you."
"The architecture is so futuristic, so we wanted to break it down with natural elements. If you look closely, you can see the imperfections in the shades of the reclaimed furniture. We decided to celebrate these imperfections rather than hide them, just like we do with our wines and produce."
Quote from David Gianotten, OMA Managing Partner – Architect:
“Dome is an all-day restaurant where connections are nurtured, work is done, and low threshold events take place. The immersive atmosphere of Dome allows the visitors to fully engage with each other and form new connections. The skylight above the communal area opens up the space to the rest of the Potato Head Studios, where all kinds of cultural events take place.”
Dome's interior design showcases a harmonious blend of sustainability, community, and innovative aesthetics.
