The project consisted of dismantling the roof of a three-storey building, with three apartments per floor, and replacing it with a new volume that contains the enlargement of two of the apartments on the top floor, a total of 97m2 plus 54m2 of terraces.
The construction was made of wood to facilitate the process and minimize weight. In fact, despite adding a floor, the total weight was reduced and thus doesn´t add load to a somewhat delicate building of the 1940ies, with a protected façade due to its historical value. It was possible to complete the works in 8 months and without moving the inhabitants of the 3rd floor.
The new top floor, whose shape is a result of the lighting angles required for the lower floors, contains several bright rooms with access to terraces, which add a lot of spaciousness to the apartments. All vertical façade elements are covered with Viroc panels. From the street, the extension is invisible.
