In a joint project by Karlsruhe Tourismus GmbH and the municipal utility company Stadtwerke Karlsruhe, DIA-Dittel Architekten has created an innovative point of contact for tourists and citizens in the center of the pioneering city of Karlsruhe: ‘Schaufenster Karlsruhe’. In the attractive location immediately on the market square, the showroom impresses with a high-quality visitor experience, cutting-edge design, and the innovative integration of digital technology.

Inspired by the city’s fan-shaped structure, the high significance of art and culture and, last but not least, the great importance of digital and media technology for the entire region, a design concept has been created that conveys the values of the UNESCO City of Media Arts in an authentic, forward-looking manner.

The key task was the creation of a central marketplace for information and inspiration and the combined representation of two topic areas: Tourism and energy. The design concept brings together these uses and other flexible options under one roof. Readings, events and information sessions take place here in a dynamic and changeable way.

Not least due to the interdisciplinary cooperation and the permanent integration of numerous partners, Schaufenster Karlsruhe represents a prototype of innovative cooperation within a city.

The lively design and presentation of the space can already be perceived from the market square. This is ensured not only by the significant floor covering in striking colors, but also by the prominently integrated digital technology, which already catches the eye as people walk past.
