The Kaserne area –a former military barracks complex in central Basel– has undergone several transformations over the years, the most recent one has seen the prominent building become a leading hub of social and cultural enterprises in Switzerland.
The main building of the Kaserne was renovated by Focketyn del Rio, opening it up towards the city and the river Rhine. IAAC expands 3D Printed Earth Forest Campus using Crane WASP 3D printer
L'Istituto di Architettura Avanzata della Catalogna (IAAC) ha completato la stampa 3D di un nuovo prototipo di edificio a basse emissioni di carbonio utilizzando terra e materiali naturali disponibili localmente. L'IAAC ha utilizzato una stampante 3D Crane WASP per creare l'edificio leggero sperimentale come parte dell'espansione del Campus 3D Printed Earth Forest dell'istituto nel Parco Naturale di Collserola, a Barcellona. Il progetto rappresenta un passo importante nello sviluppo di un modello abitativo sostenibile, a chilometro zero e a prezzi accessibili.

I rendering dell'installazione, pubblicati in precedenza qui su Archello, sono stati portati in vita da CRA Make presso il centro espositivo di Fiera Milano. Quattro tonnellate di oggetti in legno post-consumo sono stati fissati alle facciate di una grande struttura cubica. L'installazione fisica ha richiamato l'attenzione sulla questione molto reale dei materiali di scarto nell'industria del mobile.

‘Wood You Believe?’ installation at Salone del Mobile 2023 calls attention to wood waste
Wood You Believe?, una nuova installazione per il Salone del Mobile 2023, è una collaborazione esplorativa tra l'azienda eco-etica Gruppo Saviola, lo studio di design e innovazione CRA-Carlo Ratti Associati e l'architetto Italo Rota. Concepito come uno spazio sperimentale, il progetto trasforma quattro tonnellate di oggetti in legno post-consumo in una struttura che richiama l'attenzione sui rifiuti di legno. Inoltre, presenta una stanza immersiva che evidenzia il potenziale della stampa digitale come mezzo per ottenere design su misura di impatto e sostenibili. Questa installazione tempestiva si interroga su come il design possa agire per ridurre i rifiuti e allo stesso tempo ispirarsi ad essi.

MVRDV completes the dramatic transformation of a 1970s city block in Paris
In the Paris neighbourhood of Montparnasse, the now completed Gaîté Montparnasse by MVRDV is a complete transformation of a mixed-used block dating from 1974. The project retains and rationalizes previously existing uses such as a hotel, shopping centre, offices, and a library while densifying the construction with the addition of social housing and a kindergarten. And in addition to providing a more welcoming and accessible environment for pedestrians, the project also embraces the circular economy throughout, particularly with the retention of significant portions of the previous structure.

Taisugar Circular Village in Taiwan embraces the principles of circular construction and design
A key principle of the circular economy is that materials are reused and virtually no waste is created. The design of Taisugar Circular Village by Bio Architecture Formosana in Tainan, Taiwan takes this principle into account by analyzing the building construction and deconstruction plans upfront to minimize waste.
