In the heart of the city, BEHF Architects were commissioned to transform former offices of the Erste Bank Group Headquarter into a stunning five-star hotel. Four separate historic buildings, which date back to different centuries, were carefully restored and interconnected from the inside. These houses are located in the pedestrian zone between St. Peter's Square, Tuchlauben and Graben. Embracing the local urban lifestyle, the new Ignite Pizzeria in Vancouver BC blends modern city nightlife and the intimate experience of creating handmade artisan pizza. In a post-pandemic environment, a craving for palpable experiences ignites the popularity of more immersive and tactile interactions. The new pizzeria does just that, where RSAAW brings the process of hand-making artisan pizza directly to guests through the five basic human senses. This project was a design study to explore the design language and massing for a proposed new residential tower in the Historic Core of downtown Los Angeles.  Clad in shades of blue glass, the project sought to exploit the materiality of glass in novel ways by deploying it to maximize its sense of mass and density.  Building from a deep, dark, heavily textured base, the project evolves as it rises to culminate in light blue glass where the building meets the sky, along the way transitioning from a language of dense mass to one of light planarity, enabling the insertion of recessed outdoor balconies within the upper levels.​ Caption Caption The massing angles and jogs as the building rises, creating relationships that al...
