It's always fun to see the evolution of our projects as they change hands under new ownership. Our original client for Benedict Canyon came from the world of sports and wanted an open-plan home for entertaining, which also included a photography studio and gallery space to display his large-scale artwork. Seven years later, in new hands, the original bones are still in place, the landscaping is more mature, and the rooms have been repurposed to meet the new owners' needs. DESIGN INTENT Set in the Mayacamas Mountains between Sonoma and Napa, the site for this weekend home is just 10 minutes from downtown Calistoga, but it seems much further removed. The owners envisioned a retreat where they could build lasting memories with their children, entertain friends and enjoy the wine country’s slower pace. Our intent for the project was to capitalize upon the unique nature of the site and views, while respecting the character of the land.
