Monnens is known for his pure, no nonsense lines, but with a touch of some visual extras. After the success of ‘Bertus,’ with its taut lines, he has come up with a completely different concept: ‘Nestor’. With this design, he has deliberately opted for a modern re-interpretation of an old-fashioned look. In ‘Nestor’ the cosy dimension of the “country style” is applied to contemporary modular seating elements. These seating elements will be available in three widths: 60 cm, 120 cm and 180 cm. You can moreover combine them with backs which are likewise available in three dimensions. The shortest back element can also serve as an armrest, so that no separate corner elements are needed. The message is that you have to put pieces together, as in a puzzle. The exterior looks taut, but the interior and top side of the seating compositions have a more nonchalant look, thanks to the integrated cover of the down that has been deliberately upholstered very loosely. “We have long searched for the right nonchalant touch,” Mr Vanzieleghem says laconically. The result is a seat in which you can curl up – that much is clear. A corner arrangement of about 240 by 180 cm, and a 240 cm sofa will be on show at Cologne. Dimensions: seating element: 60, 120 or 180 cm; back element: 60, 120 or 180 cm.
