‘00:00 Restaurant’ at Casacor São Paulo 2022

Ricardo Abreu Arquitetos 建築家 として

His third participation in the São Paulo edition, the architect presents a project of 582 m2 in partnership with the restaurant MYK

Owner of a unique personality, the architect Ricardo Abreu, in partnership with the restaurant MYK, signs the exclusive 00:00 Restaurant, in the 35th edition of CASACOR São Paulo, which this year has ‘Private infinity’ as theme, and takes place from July to September 11, in one of the most iconic spaces in São Paulo: the Conjunto Nacional, on Avenida Paulista. The environment has an aesthetic look at forgotten and abandoned spaces in large urban centers. Following a narrative about the action of time and its achievements, the architect proposes a reflection on the possibilities between the preexistence of empty and unoccupied space, and the introduction of formal and technological contemporaneity. The historical past is respected and enhanced with the needs of the present, that is, the past remains alive and a single element that acts in favor of time is celebrated: nature.

The 00:00 Restaurant is presented in partnership with MYK restaurant, under the command of chef Mariana Fonseca, responsible for bringing contemporary Greek cuisine. Through the large white room of 582m2, the visitor is invited to walk through 41 islands and vegetable beds between tables made in porcelain tile especially for the space - a reference to the Greek Cyclades, a group of islands north of the Aegean Sea around the sacred island of Delos. As in a real labyrinth, whoever enters the place is encouraged to unravel the project, which reveals itself at every step.

Defined as a great architectural and historical experience, Ricardo's environment brings a true full immersion of organic lines between ceilings, floors and built elements, where the vegetation stands out. The 25 islands are invaded by herbaceous plants, ornamental foliage, shrubs and parasitic species, where the aesthetic eye is awakened to the main element that signals life in that abandoned space: nature. Biophilic design incorporates the characteristics of the natural world and connects man to the built environment.

Clay is the main source of raw material for coatings. There is abundant use of faded and aged ceramics lining the islands, as well as on the floors and walls. The exaggeration in combination of textures of the various materials used metaphorically reproduces the various historical layers that space has accumulated over time. And in the midst of this interplay of boiseries and applied fabrics, winding or vaulted ceilings, the broken walls stand out like real scars.

One of the highlights of the project is the Urban Carpets collection that by Kamy Verde launches in this edition of CASACOR in partnership with the Ricardo Abreu Arquitetos office. With authorial designs, the rugs are reproduced in emblematic cuts of the city of São Paulo, which have already had landscaping projects designed to bring green back to the city, but which have not yet been implemented. They are pieces with outlines filled with the colors of foliage, flowers and seeds of tropical species, with textures of the different techniques used in the tapestry, added to the color of yellow ipês, magnolias and jatobás. As a result, an immersion in the plant and architectural wealth of the city can be seen. Rugs are present in the three lounges of the environment. As soon as the visitor enters the restaurant, the highlight is the  ̈nova paulista ̈ tapestry. The  ̈minhocão ̈ and the  ̈marginal ̈ complete the other two lounges, revealing landscapes of the metropolis.

The lighting was designed to enhance the vegetation, focusing on the wide variety of marantas, grasses, dracenas and lambaris, which with their reddish foliage, stand out in the predominantly white environment. The luminaires of the Pencas line (table, floor and pendant), by Bertolucci, give the final touch. Continuing the appropriation of the abandoned space, the presence of a large hill makes reference to a collapse of damp earth, a primordial source for allowing the growth of mosses. From this hill rises the restaurant bar, the high point of the project.

The contrast of the in natura stones with the cut work of the polished quartzite runs through the entire counter. Positioned on the central axis, the bar allows interaction with the entire restaurant and with a functional kitchen that occupies the great peninsula. The chandelier cacti positioned on the ceiling awaken the eye to this succulent species, the true symbol of resistance. Completing the theme addressed in the project, in the middle lounge, we have a wall with a graphic application by Juliana Pelegrinello, in a faded green fabric that permeates to the ceiling, highlighting the urban jungle even more.

Next to the bar, the history of the project is contacted through other lenses and broadcast on TV to the guests. At the opposite side, the visitor is invited to discover a large circular square. There, the architecture seems to want to touch the invasive nature and as a result, a large hourglass can be seen, signaling the passage of time.
