Kvadrat architects studio has created an interior design concept that reflects the idea of “not just a bookshop”, but a location for leisurely study of literature, socialising over a cup of coffee and creative meetings.
Many functions - many possibilities
The interior of the shop is based on the principle of book-coffee-events, one zone complements another and can be easily transformed into a more spacious and capacious one if necessary. For example, if a meeting with an author or a presentation of a new product is expected.
The size of the room is extremely modest, only 33 square metres, and this was taken into account in the design. Steel panels and yellow colour give lightness and do not overload the space. All items are maximally functional and mobile. Island showcase structures can be easily moved and make room for art events.
Sun in metal
Yellow is the signature colour of the book brand, and the designers of Kvadrat architects used it harmoniously in colouristic solutions: in the colour of shelves, bar area and ceilings. The warm shade combined with the coldness of stainless steel looks extremely aesthetic and fresh. Bright, but not obtrusive. The gradient effect is achieved by reflections in the metal panels.
The lemon shade is not accidentally in the brand's palette, it enhances the feeling of warmth, open and friendly atmosphere. The consultant will recommend books based on the tastes and preferences of the guest, and you can dive into the book immediately, combining two pleasures: spiritual and bodily food.
Many of the shelves are not in monochrome, but with flecks of yellow in different variations. This only emphasises the variety of books on display: from timeless classics published in the Kazakh language, to the newly released novelties of local publishers. The backlighting on the shelves and in the coffee zone looks like a design element, continuing the play of light and adding volume.
Fascinating narrative
“The space feels voluminous, multi-dimensional, there is air and the right atmosphere. An aesthetically non-trivial bookshop that feels more like an art space. A location where it's easy to immerse yourself in book worlds, moving from one story to another. And it is very much connected with the narrative component of the interior design, which tells a unique story, highlighting the codes and values of the brand,” - believe Kvadrat architects designers Rustam Minnehanov and Sergey Bekmukhanbetov.
