Owner/family profile (information provided in your office briefing at the time of project development).
Young couple approximately 35 years old, with 2 small children aged 3 and 5 and 2 dogs. Weekend and holiday home. They don't live here.
What were the owner's requests and expectations for the project and how were they met?
Apartment at the sea, they want to see children grow up. They have an affectionate memory with Riviera, their parents also grew up spending holidays there. In addition, they welcome friends and want a place to hang out, with a beachy, light atmosphere, but without being cliché. He insisted on having a room for each child and one for guests. I didn't want to move one of my children when I had friends over. They wanted a large, comfortable sofa to fit the whole family, including the dogs.
Is it construction, renovation or interior design renovation? If it was a renovation, what was the internal distribution of the property like afterwards?
Reform. Previously, the living room and balcony were separated by a frame. We removed the frame and integrated it.
Was it necessary to change electrical, hydraulic material, etc.? Specify the details and reasons.
No. Just minimal changes to tap points and inclusion of new socket and automation points.
What is the inspiration and conception of the project?
A light, clean decoration, making full use of natural light and having fresh air. Natural elements are always present in our projects, even more so when it come to a beach house.
Is there a starting point that you consider to be the key to the project?
Yes, the kitchen. This has always been a challenge, because the apartment's social door, when open, faces the kitchen exactly and, speaking in a more technical way, it is never ideal, so how can you leave this very technical area with a nice view when you open the apartment door? We started by building all the appliances in the apartment. 2 refrigerators, dishwasher, hood, all built-in and hidden. Choose the materials very carefully to bring a lot of charm to the environment. Starting from the kitchen, the developments began to expand to other spaces and bring the language we wanted to the apartment.
Are there any previous features of the property that were maintained because they were special or at the request of the owners?
We didn't change anything in the baths, we just the carpentry and decoration. What was maintained was due to condominium regulations, the client was willing to change everything! We had an issue on the balcony that even took our sleep and the customer's sleep. We wanted an even greater integration between the living room and the balcony, such as following the TV panel to the perimeter of the balcony. And also continue with the stone from the sofa wall to the edge of the balcony.
Did you have any difficulties? What were the solutions found?
We had many elements of the balconies due to the building's regulations (tile coating, original barbecue sink, countertop). The suite balconies could not be integrated according to the first version of the project...From then on we adapted them with loose furniture without changing the covering. In terms of what needed to be maintained, we emphasized the details of the project to minimize these elements.
What factors were analyzed when choosing covering materials? What materials stand out? Are there any ecological or technological materials that deserve to be detailed?
The coverings were chosen to bring a cozy atmosphere and a natural rusticity to the elements, bringing the internal and external aesthetics closer together. (stone behind the sofa, hydraulic tiles in the kitchen, gourmet island). The natural stone in the living room was decisive in bringing the atmosphere we wanted to this apartment. It explores all the beige and brown tones that we used throughout the project. The hydraulic tile was the starting point for us to define the look of the kitchen, which had to be impactful in a good way as it is integrated with the living room. We chose blue precisely to bring the colors of the sea view inside. The finish of the gourmet island was also handpicked, to bring more texture to the environment (Itaunas granite with this rustic and beaded finish). An interesting detail was also the choice of colored lining in the laundry room. We wanted to give it a more social feel than a service one since it is so close to the main entrance of the apartment.
Integrated Living: favor the sea view, bringing the climate and external elements inside. Work with different textures in the same tone (beige)
Kitchen: open concept, hiding all possible appliances for better integration with the social area. Compact but well equipped kitchen.
Laundry: make it look more like a social area, bringing elements as finer finishes, as it is very close to the social area.
Toilet: Simple but with something standout and personality like the mirror and toten countertop in Guatemala green marble
Intimate Hall: Hall gallery highlighting the work of textile art throughout its entirety
S. Guests: Timeless and versatile (possibility of pulling out a pull-out bed) hence the choice of lightweight side tables
S. Master: Cozy refuge, lots of neutral tones that stand out due to different textures
S. Isadora: Delicate and that would accompany her daughter's growth so that she wouldn't look too baby to be able to maintain the decor for longer as she was still in the crib/bed transition
S. Georges: Simple and playful, with space for toys
Baths: we only made the cabinet for the benches in joinery (no need for a lot of storage space, and we recommended the mirrors.
Is there any special object or accessory that deserves to be highlighted, for example, as something ordered abroad or as a collectible?
Textile wall sculpture – Eva Soban (intimate hall – gallery hall)
It was an idea created by us since the intimate corridor is super narrow and long. Eva had already collaborated with us at exhibition with a piece of hers wrapped in hangings, and that's where the idea of replicating it came from, but in larger proportions and with greater artistic freedom in terms of both colors and movement.
