A very bright owned apartment that is being renovated to accommodate the new features of an expanding family by revising the layout and optimizing the spaces in particular in the sleeping area and kitchen. The reorganisation of the floor plan allowed us to relocate two, more comfortable and proportionate bedrooms, one of which with an en suite bathroom; a guest bathroom; and the space for the creation of a laundry room. The kitchen now opens onto the living room with a large sliding glass door. This change made it possible to create a studio to include the new necessity of working from home.As for the furnishings, being a house that is already inhabited, we decided, together with the owners, to keep many existing pieces of furniture, both contemporary and family-owned from the early 1900s.

Our proposal was to create a leitmotif through the use of colour that would enhance the period furnishings and at the same time provide a soft and relaxing atmosphere. For this, we chose a very delicate shade of green, using Pigeon by Farrow and Ball that surrounded the living room space in the form of a low boiserie, in contrast with the neutral colour of the walls. The parquet here was sandblasted to remove the red effect and bring it to softer shades and in harmony with the rest of the design idea.

The kitchen opens onto the dining area through a custom-made double-leaf sliding door in the same colour as the boiserie. A functional element that gives a lot of character as well as expanding the space when wanted. Here we recalled the same green shade with a versatile and multifaceted floor covering by Mutina Primavera: the large size allowed us to have a continuous surface effect. We also used the same ceramic but in white for the vertical cladding of the kitchen.

Entering the master bedroom we find a new walk-in wardrobe that adds capacity to the one inside the bedroom by Diotti, both linked by the use of neutral colours. A transom window between the bathroom and the bedroom ensures the presence of natural light without compromising the privacy of the en-suit bathroom.
Here, we had fun with some ceramics that we adore and which, in addition to being very elegant, create a beautiful sense of movement: the glossy green Vogue Flauti combined with the satin white Fap Milano&Floor. The double washbasin on top of a suspended cabinet lets us have both maximum capacity and lightness. The faucets and the rest of the bathroom accessories are all matt black, even the AGHA RUN shower cabin.

In the case of the kids’ room, the challenge was for their two children to share the room but also to have lots of space to play. Pull-out beds and a custom-designed cubic element to hold all sorts of toys were the best solution for this request. To achieve a cocooned atmosphere we created a boiserie using Savage ground by Farrow and Ball on the lower part of the wall and a Borastapeter wallpaper on the upper part.
The guest bathroom complements the palette of the house but with a terracotta colour variation. One detail we loved to include was the coloured grout to match the tiles with one another.
