HOUSE ON THE AIR

Fran Silvestre Architects 建築家 として

Zahara de los Atunes is one of those places where the ordinary becomes exceptional. Every day has its sunrise and sunset, but the way it happens in this unique place is difficult to describe.

With this starting point, the architecture is arranged almost like a mechanism to protect ourselves while capturing the spectacle offered by our surroundings.
Due to its sloping terrain, the structure appears as a piece of architecture deposited in the environment. The site is prepared with a sort of foundation made from the grey tonality of the stones found in the surroundings; in fact, the name Zahara comes from the Arabic Sahara, which could be translated as a "rocky place".

This foundation allows the house to be settled at the necessary level to ensure the view of the sunset reflection in the surface of the Atlantic Ocean. At the opposite side, we find a quiet courtyard that provides shelter for the strong winds of Tarifa, this courtyard also leads to the complementary rooms of the house. As if the upper floor was dropped over the plinth, the residence is divided into three areas.

The main area is the living room. Entirely passing between the northwest, where the magical sunset takes place, and the southeast where no structural element interferes with the interior space and the landscape. On both sides are the night areas with the same orientation. This arrangement balances the structure and gives privacy to the main room.

"House in the air"

PORCELANOSA Manufacturer として

‘House in the air’ is a minimalist-looking home, whose refined forms bear the stamp of architect Fran Silvestre. With a dominant colour scheme based on whites and neutral tones, the open-plan space gives way to the natural surroundings. A return to basics where the everyday becomes exceptional.

Located on the coast of Cadiz, ‘House in the air’ is set in natural surroundings overlooking the Atlantic. The residential has an architecture of cubic shapes and glass walls that offer extraordinary panoramic views from any room on the main floor. A structure that provides protection from the winds of the area and acts as a frame to enjoy the surroundings.

In order to overcome the slope of the land, the house appears as an architectural piece where straight and refined lines prevail. Forms that contrast with the surrounding nature.

‘House in the air’ sits on a grey base that harmonises with the surrounding terrain. This is the starting point for positioning the house in the desired location and guaranteeing the best views of the Atlantic.

The residential consists of two floors, of which the upper floor is the main floor. This, in turn, is divided into three spaces, leaving the central one as the day area. The kitchen, dining room and living room share a large, open-plan area. Three rooms that merge through their minimalist lines and a uniform chromatic palette. In addition, the absence of structural elements that interfere between this area and the landscape contributes to emphasise the sensation of spaciousness and luminosity.

At both ends of the day area are the bedrooms. These have the same refined aesthetics based on custom-made lacquered wooden furniture.

In the same way, the use of the Bottega White L large format porcelain flooring, both indoors and outdoors, contributes to blurring the boundaries. An extension that is accentuated with the installation of the ceramic product by materials by Porcelanosa Grupo, together with the minimalist aluminium carpentry. For its part, the Berna Acero model is the one chosen to dress the terrace and the infinity pool.

Finally, at the back, a quiet courtyard has been designed to take shelter when the wind blows strongly. A space located on the ground floor that articulates the rooms with complementary uses to the main dwelling.

The pure, clean forms and marked straight lines that characterise this home are continued inside. The kitchen is open to the living-dining room and is projected outwards, providing spacious living areas on the upper floor.

Equipped with kitchen furniture Emotions® by Gamadecor, is an open-plan, island design. It also has the single lever mixer tap for osmosis, chrome and with the Osmosis swivel spout from Noken in the water area. Furthermore, the proposal is completed with the PORCELANOSA flooring in neutral tones and large format used throughout the entire floor, installed with the joint materials from Butech.

Finally, in the bathroom we find a spacious mueble suspended with integrated handle from the Emotions® series by Gamadecor. Equipment that comes with a white worktop made of Krion® K-Life 1100 and a shower tray with Butech ceramic grating.
