The Marquise stands with its feet in the water. The highest point of the building marks the transitional position between the inner city and the Kop West as the termination of the district Weidevenne in Purmerend. Together with the adjacent Melkweg bridge over the Noordhollandsch Kanaal, the sturdy and light building becomes recognizable on the scale of the city.
By 'rolling up' the dwellings within the boundaries of approved the building envelope, an intimate public square has been realised. This creates a subtle and natural transition to its public space.
